When the bank cannot pay

Exactly what happens when your town bank cannot pay, and how to go on holiday without losing anything.

Which claim goes first

The most recent one. The server always takes back the last claim your town made, then the one before that, and so on going back in time.

That is the good news on this page: your original base, the one you claimed when you arrived, is the very last to go. It is your recent extensions that drop off first.

A message in chat names the claim taken back each time.

Your builds themselves stay standing: the server takes the protection away, it does not break anything. But until the land is claimed again, it turns back into free land, and anybody can settle on it or break a block there. That is the real reason never to let a debt drag on.

The holiday case

Your claims are never taken back because you have not connected. On that front, you are safe.

But the rent keeps falling every Monday while you are away. Do the maths before you leave: with 30 claims, that is 15,000$ every Monday. Three weeks of holiday means 45,000$ to leave in the bank, plus a little margin on top.

If the bank runs dry, the debt starts on the first Monday you miss. Then there are 72 hours of grace, then one claim a day. Over three weeks away, if the bank runs dry on the very first Monday, that is 18 claims taken back: the last 18 you had made.

Before you go away for a long time, two reflexes: leave enough to pay for every week you are away, or give back the claims you are not using first.
